Brewers Snag 9-7 Win
|
The Milwaukee Brewers trumped the Texas Rangers, 9-7, at Arlington Stadium 1979. Milwaukee right fielder Denny Walling was terrific. He was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Roy Smith got the win, improving to 1-1. He worked 8.2 innings, giving up 7 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Milwaukee has now won 3 in a row.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Mike Schmidt, the Milwaukee third baseman. Schmidt had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Brewers ahead, 5-4. For the game, Schmidt had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Schmidt. "And not try to do too much."
