The New York Mets got a superb performance from pitcher Enrique Martinez, but the Chicago Cubs still won the game, 4-3. Martinez threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball. The winning pitcher was Danny Darwin. His record is now 4-2. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits for the Cubs. George Durham was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 7 save opportunities.
In the top of the fifth, with the game tied, New York allowed the Cubs to go up, 2-1, on a New York error.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Darwin told the Chicago Observer.
