Cubs Snatch Late Win
The 7-4 Chicago win over New York was due in large part to Lonnie Smith. The Cubs left fielder was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Chicago has 3 straight wins, New York 3 straight losses.

Smith had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-1 fastball from Matt Adams, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Cubs a 6-4 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Smith.

"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Smith told the Chicago Observer. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
