Braves Lose to Expos, 5-3
|
The Montreal Expos defeated the Atlanta Braves, 5-3, in National League action at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium 1974. Montreal pitcher Michael Steen had a standout performance. In 7.2 innings, Steen surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Rollie Fingers got the save, his 9th in 10 chances.
There was more than one reason the Expos beat the Braves, but Steen's big at-bat in the top of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Montreal manager Rich Callaghan.
Montreal has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
