The Cincinnati Reds overcame a fine performance by Pittsburgh first baseman Greg Walker to defeat the Pirates, 6-5, at Three Rivers Stadium 1975. Walker went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The Pirates fall to 10-21 and continue their lackluster start to the 1982 season.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Mike Easler came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Timnothy Milner, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 6-5.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Easler. "But I like how we're playing right now."
