Athletics Mathematically Out of Playoffs Wednesday, August 18th, 1982 Did anyone think the Oakland Athletics had a chance at the postseason this year? It was already quite unlikely, and now even the smallest hopes have been dashed -- the team was mathematically eliminated from postseason contention today. Oakland last appeared in the postseason in 1971. This is their 11th consecutive year missing the playoffs, and in total they have not advanced past the regular season 100 times in their 111-year history. Oakland has won the World Series 5 times in their history. |
