Houston's Smith to Miss Season
Sunday, October 3rd, 1982
The Houston Astros and their fans were rocked today by the news that star left fielder Zail Smith would miss the rest of the season due to injury. Smith was hurt in a recent game against the Cincinnati Reds while running the bases. He was immediately removed from the game and taken for examination. Tests today revealed the injury was a torn anterior cruciate ligament. His doctors think that Smith will miss about 6 months.

For the season Smith is currently batting .279 with 51 home runs and 122 RBIs. In 159 games he has reached base at a .357 rate and scored 112 runs to date.
