Week's Best Player: Mobile's Opie Monday, August 30th, 1982 It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Southern League, but last week Jim Opie of the Mobile Bears reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Opie rocked opposing pitching for a .385 average (10-for-26), 4 home runs and 9 RBIs to come away with the award. This year Opie has batted at a .219 pace with 84 hits, 21 home runs, 73 RBIs and scored 52 times. |
