Eastern League Names Rubel Best Player

Mike Rubel took Eastern League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 22.

For his spectacular campaign, the Lynn Sailors star has been named the 1982 Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the first baseman.

On the season he compiled a .290 batting average to go with a .432 on-base percentage. The native of The United States also added 25 doubles, 3 triples, 33 home runs, 83 RBIs and 82 runs scored.

He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 7. Tim Burke of the Reading Phillies finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Ken Gerhart of the Lynn Sailors finished third.
