Perna Punishes CLL Pitchers This Week
Monday, August 23rd, 1982
It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the California League, but last week Joe Perna of the Stockton Mariners reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Perna rocked opposing pitching for a .429 average (12-for-28), 5 home runs and 17 RBIs to come away with the award.

For the season Perna is currently batting .279 with 24 home runs and 75 RBIs. In 97 games he has reached base at a .387 rate and scored 70 runs to date.
