Mike Laga took Florida State League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 22.

For his spectacular campaign, the Lakeland Pilots star has been named the 1982 Florida State League Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the first baseman.

On the season he compiled a .327 batting average to go with a .398 on-base percentage. The native of Ridgewood, New Jersey also added 24 doubles, 6 triples, 40 home runs, 127 RBIs and 86 runs scored.

He received 11 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Mike D Young of the Lakeland Pilots finished second in voting, while Jorge Villalobos of the Pompano Beach Stingrays finished third.
