What does it take to win the Pitcher of the Year Award?

Just ask Chuck Cary of the Spartanburg Spartans -- the latest Western Carolinas League Pitcher of the Year Award winner.

"My dad always told me to dream big and dream always," he said. "It's not like I shoot for the Pitcher of the Year Award," he said. "I have big aspirations for what I want to do in this game and what I want to achieve in a long career."

The Spartans pitching ace made some of his dreams come true this year, winning 14 games and losing only 17. In 35 starts, Cary registered a 3.14 ERA and limited other clubs to a .226 batting average. He fanned 243 in 332.2 innings and issued 104 walks.

He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 6. Kevin Houston of the Anderson Rebels finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Lance McCullers of the Sumter Gamecocks finished third.
