Ciardi Voted Best MWL Pitcher in August Wednesday, September 1st, 1982 In August, when the name of Mark Ciardi appeared on the Clinton lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 5 times and chalked up 5 wins and no losses. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Month. Ciardi shackled opposing batters on 31 base hits and a .205 batting average. He rang up 32 strikeouts in 40.2 innings of work, surrendered 9 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.21 ERA.
