Alfredo Torres took New York-Pennsylvania League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 24.

For his spectacular campaign, the Auburn Red Stars star has been named the 1982 New York-Pennsylvania League Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the catcher.

On the season he compiled a .329 batting average to go with a .383 on-base percentage. The native of Maracay, Venezuela also added 9 doubles, 4 triples, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 11. Orsino Hill of the Geneva Red Legs finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Bob Brower of the Geneva Red Legs finished third.
