The Manteca HS right fielder made Costa Mesa HS defenders earn their pay, lashing Costa Mesa HS pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the game. He told BNN reporters after the game that his strategy was "just hit it where they pitched it." "Too often I try too hard to pull the ball," Protas said in his postgame press conference. "Today, I just went with the pitch." Jim Protas hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Eric Hough in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Al Schnell in the 6th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 8th.
