Hammaker Crafts 2-0 Shutout Thursday, September 30th, 1982 The Milwaukee Brewers did little to support starter Atlee Hammaker against the Boston Red Sox, but it turned out he didn't need the help. The left-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Red Sox, striking out 8 and surrendering 3 hits. The performance from Hammaker allowed Milwaukee to escape with the 2-0 win despite an anemic offense. "Nobody came to me and said 'Atlee, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Hammaker told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it." Hammaker has fashioned a 15-10 mark for the season, 3.30 ERA and thrown 229 innings in 31 starts.
